Johannesburg - A female police constable has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting her ex-husband in the chest during an argument, Gauteng police said on Friday.

The incident happened in Clayville, Tembisa in the East Rand on Thursday night, said spokesman Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng.

“The ex-husband arrived to pay a visit to their baby on Thursday evening. An argument ensued between the two, and she pulled out her service firearm and shot him in the chest. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition,” Mofokeng said.

The constable is stationed at railway police station in Germiston.
