Polokwane - Five people, including a police officer, have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery at a cash-and-carry store in Limpopo, police said on Tuesday.

Two security guards were robbed of their cellphones and firearms at the store, on the road between Musina and Louis Trichard, on Sunday afternoon, Colonel Ronel Otto said.

Early on Monday morning, police stopped a car at a four-way stop on the N1.

“The five suspects inside were arrested and members recovered 10 cellphones, as well as two firearms,” Otto said.

“Further investigations revealed that one of the suspects is a member of the SA Police Service, attached to the protection and security services in Pretoria.”

Police were investigating whether the alleged robbers could be linked to other crimes.
