Limpopo - A female traffic officer has been arrested for kidnapping in Thohoyandou after a 17-year-old mother and her baby went missing, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.
“She was arrested after she allegedly kidnapped the 17-year-old and her one-month-old baby. The mother was called by the suspect on Friday and said she would pick her up and help her with application of an ID document so she can register the baby,” spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said.
The teenager, Hulani Chauke and her baby were reported missing after she did not return home the following day.
Otto said the baby was found unharmed with the traffic officer, but the mother was still missing.
The 43-year-old woman was expected to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of kidnapping.
