An Elsies River police sergeant has been arrested in Cape Town for apparently soliciting a bribe, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.
Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said the officer, 33, requested R50 000 for favourable treatment of a man he was investigating for murder.
He said the man notified the police and a trap was set up in which the man's wife offered R25 000 as a down payment.
The policeman was arrested on Tuesday afternoon when he accepted the bribe.
He would appear in the Belville Magistrate's Court on Thursday. – Sapa
