Cape Town - A Cape Town police officer watched in terror as two robbers raped his wife.

The men stormed the 33-year-old constable’s Mandela Park home with the intent of robbing him of his service pistol.

The traumatised cop, who is stationed in Woodstock, and his 24-year-old wife were sleeping when they were woken up by the harsh flashes of a torch in their faces at around 3am on Wednesday.

The attackers, armed with a gun and a screwdriver, told the policeman they were robbing him and raping his wife because his job “disturbed” their criminal activities.

His relatives say they received a call from the distressed couple shortly before 5am.

His older brother said: “When he got up to switch on the room’s lights, the one guy told him not to move. They said they knew he was a cop and asked for his gun.

“When he said he did not have it, they ransacked the house looking for it.

“When they couldn’t find it, they put a gun to his head and made the wife undress, then both of them took turns raping her while he watched.

“They put a screwdriver to his eye as well and kept digging in as if to remove it.

“They told him they were doing it because they knew he was a cop, and his job was disturbing them while they did what they did on the streets at night.”

The robbers got away with cellphones, wallets, clothing and even took meat from their fridge.

The policeman’s sister says she is grateful the couple’s two-year-old daughter had spent the night at her house.

“I called them at around 7pm and said that they should send the girl to my house because I missed her – this was God’s way of protecting her because they could have raped her too,” said the 44-year-old woman.

“My brother’s phone still rings when I call it, they answered it once and told me to voetsek. I hope they get arrested soon.”

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said no arrests have been made.

“The police are investigating a case of house robbery and rape,” she said.
