Cape Town - A police constable appeared in the Bredasdorp Magistrate's Court on a charge of theft after he allegedly sold his bullet-proof vest, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.

“He was released on a warning to appear on December 8, 2014,” Captain FC van Wyk said.

The constable, 35, was arrested at his home in Bredasdorp on Tuesday after he allegedly sold the police-issue bullet-proof vest for R500.

Van Wyk said the arrest was part of broader efforts to root out corruption in the SA Police Service.
