Durban - The killer of an off-duty policeman, Constable Siphamandla Power-Lord Mgaga, 28, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The policeman became involved in a domestic violence matter on behalf of a female relative involving Mfaniseni Khumalo, 28, said a police spokesman.
Just after she got into the constable’s vehicle, Khumalo approached and fired at both occupants with a 9mm firearm, killing the woman and seriously wounding Mgaga, who died later in hospital.
Khumalo went into hiding, before handing himself over to the Hawks in Newcastle several days later. He was convicted and sentenced at Madadeni High Court on Friday for double murder and robbery.
