Johannesburg - The first police officer on the scene of an accident involving Carl Pistorius took the stand in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Pistorius is on trial for culpable homicide following the accident which led to Maria Barnard's death in 2008. Her motorcycle collided with Pistorius's bakkie.

Constable Robert Raphadu testified that Barnard was still alive when he arrived at the scene on March 8, 2008.

He was being cross-examined by Pistorius's lawyer Kenny Oldwadge on the layout and distances between vehicles at the scene.

Oldwadge asked Raphadu about the length of the tape measure used.

“I'm not sure about the distance of the tape itself, but it was longer than the distance we measured,” he said.

Oldwadge asked Raphadu if he had received any vehicle collision training before attending the accident scene.

“No, I don't have. I only know how to draw a plan when I'm at the scene only.”

Pistorius's sister Aimee and his father Henke were in court.
