Cops on anti-crime blitz in Parow

Cape Town - Police in Cape Town conducted a massive operation in Parow on Saturday during which almost R800 000 worth of counterfeit goods were seized.

The anti-crime operation formed part of Operation Fiela and saw a contingent of police and law enforcement officers deployed in the area which has become notorious for drugs and counterfeit goods.

During the search operation 13 premises were search and counterfeit clothing, toys, polish and electrical items to the value of R790 285 were confiscated police said.

Two vehicle check points were also held which resulted in 101 vehicles being searched and fines to the value of R21 500 being issued.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said: “A total of 191 persons were searched which resulted in the arrest of one male and one female suspect in their thirties for being in possession of tik , mandrax and dagga worth a substantial amount and one male in possession of a knife.

“With the assistance of the Department of Home Affairs, 10 undocumented persons were also arrested. This operation was directed at all illegal activity, but also to create a safer environment for the law abiding citizens of this area.”

Once charged, the arrested suspects would appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court .
