Durban - A KwaZulu-Natal private investigation firm is confident the SAPS is doing its job in finding Senzo Meyiwa’s killers.

“Everything has been done according to the book. What’s left is to pin an individual or more to the crime,” said Magma Security spokesman Vincent Mdunge.

Magma Security’s Shaheen Su-leiman said he never gave up hunting even the most hardened criminal, no matter how well hidden.

“If I see he is hlanya-hlanya (crazy-crazy), I am also hlanya-hlanya.”

On Friday Magma Security met the family of the slain Bafana Bafana captain and reported on its investigation.

“The family is determined to see the case to the end no matter how long the process takes.”

Mdunge says the release this week of suspect Zamokuhle Mbatha, 25, when the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court found there was not enough evidence to keep him in custody, should not be cause for dismay.

The SAPS came under severe criticism following the provisional withdrawal of the charges against Mbatha this week but refused to apologise and maintained that he remained a suspect.

“It does not mean the investigation has been bungled. The SAPS has deployed the cream of the crop to solve the case. A great team of mature and committed individuals.”

South Africans must be patient and allow the police to do their investigating thoroughly to secure a conviction, said Mdunge.

“You can’t afford to make one mistake. If you do that you may lose the case.

“Also, the laws of the country, in line with our constitution, require a high degree of compliance, and the rights of detainees are important. The police cannot detain someone for more than 48 hours without a formal charge.”

Mdunge believes some “money-mongers” were lured by prospects of the R250 000 reward pledged by Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega.

“Some got so desperate they even circulated a picture of someone they alleged was Kelly Khumalo’s ex-boyfriend. After interrogating him we found the chap was a fan who had met the star once and had his picture taken with her.”

Mdunge was in the Magma Security investigation team who worked round the clock in Gauteng, and visited the crime scene, the house of Kelly Khumalo’s mother at Mzamo section in Vosloorus, escorted by the SAPS.

“It was important that the SAPS escorted us to the crime scene in their capacity as custodians of the crime docket.

“This is normal procedure. As private investigators we work closely with the SAPS.”

Like the SAPS, Magma Security believes the murder was a robbery gone horribly wrong.
