Rustenburg - Three police officers are being investigated for theft after they allegedly took five plastic bags containing dagga and R11 400 in cash in Tswelelang township near Wolmanranstad, North West police said on Wednesday.

“It is alleged that the police officials entered the house owned by a 70-year-old, and conducted a search following information that man was in possession of dagga. The police allegedly found five plastic bags of dagga and cash underneath the bed, and took them before leaving the place,” said police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone.

The incident allegedly happened on Monday night.

The 70-year-old man then went to the Wolmaransstad police station to open a case against the police officials. He found them at them at the gate and they denied him entrance to the police station.

“He then went to Makwassie police station where he managed to open a case of theft. No one has been arrested at this stage and investigation into the matter continues,” Mokgwabone said. “Internal investigation will also be instituted against the members.”

The North West provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Zukiswa Mbombo said: “We will not tolerate the kind of behaviour displayed by the members. It is our responsibility to make sure that those who transgress the law are dealt with accordingly, including our own members.”
