Rustenburg - Provincial police divers were searching for a Zimbabwean man presumed dead at local dam in Jericho outside Brits, North West police said on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said Gibson Mkhondo, 44, was reported missing on Saturday by his friends.
“It is alleged that the victim went on an illegal fishing mission with his two friends at Klipvoor Borakalalo Game Reserve at around 11pm on Friday,” said Ramaloko. “The three went in the dam to lay their fishing nets, and Mkhondo did not return . It is suspected that he may have drowned.
“Police divers have been searching for him from Sunday with no success, and the search continues,” Ramaloko said.
He said Mkhondo’s two friends were earlier charged for trespassing but the case was withdrawn by the court.
