Rustenburg – The ANC councillor charged with malicious damage to property, intimidation and assault briefly appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Luvuyo Tolo Maqwane, 54, made his first appearence at the regional court and his case was postponed to October 1.

The case has been moved from the lower court, for trial at the regional court.

The councillor is accused of attacking members of the Economic Freedom Fighters on July 15 at Popo Molefe informal settlement.

The State alleged that Maqwane smashed Stanley Komape’s windscreen shield with a stone in an attempt to stop EFF members from entering the informal settlement. The EFF members were campaigning ahead of their second anniversary rally held in Olympia Park Stadium on July 25.

Komape alleged Maqwane smashed the windscreen of his car on the right side, before he told him that other political parties were not allowed in Popo Molefe.

Maqwane’s bail of R1000 was extended.
