A 39-year-old Germiston Flying Squad member was due to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with the death of a man on Saturday.

Rean Ramdin, 29, was killed as he allegedly tried to escape police custody while he was handcuffed.

He was shot after he was arrested outside Presley’s nightclub in Boksburg for alleged possession of drugs.

Ramdin escaped from a police van at a stop street.

Police told the family they had given two warning shots. Ramdin was hit when he continued running.

The Independent Complaints Directorate on Tuesday arrested the sergeant, who cannot be named until he appears in court

He is the sixth Gauteng police officer to be arrested within five days.

His arrest comes just four days after student constable Sipho Mbatha was apprehended in connection with the death of 16-year-old Thato Mokoka, of Bramfischerville Phase 2, who was shot dead outside his shack. – The Star
