Nelspruit - A man accused of raping his four-year-old son appeared in the Tonga Magistrate's Court on Monday, Mpumalanga police said.

The matter was postponed to July 30 for a bail application, Captain Leonard Hlathi said.

The man, from Langeloop village near the Swaziland and Mozambican border, allegedly raped his son while he was visiting him during the school holidays.

Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyambi said earlier the boy and his eight-year-old brother lived with their mother at Sikhwahlane village.

“They went to visit their father for the school holidays. Their mother learnt about the abuse of the four-year-old after the eight-year-old disclosed the matter to their aunt,” said Nyambi.

He said the boy was taken to hospital where it was confirmed he had been raped.
