Durban - A man accused of hiring two men to kill his seven-year old daughter will stand trial in the Durban High Court in November.

National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said that Thokozani Ngidi would stand trial from November 30 to December 4.

Ngidi is accused of hiring Simosakhe Ngcobo and an accomplice to kill his daughter Philiswa Zungu.

Ngcobo was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment in May after pleading guilty to taking part in the March 4 murder.

In his plea that was read to the court, he alleged that Ngidi had offered him and a friend R20 000 to kill his daughter, who was staying with her mother in the remote settlement of Nzuse near Tongaat.

Ngcobo, a street vendor, was ultimately only paid R1 000 for the murder, as was his accomplice.

Zungu had her throat slit, intestines removed and was stabbed more than 40 times by Ngcobo and his accomplice, who is still on the run from police.

At the time of Ngcobo’s sentencing, Ramkisson-Kara said that Ngidi was a police constable when the two men killed his daughter.

She said on Wednesday that the trial dates were provisional and could still change.
