Cape Town - Daily Voice columnist Moeshfieka Botha and her family became victims of crime over the weekend.

Moeshfieka, who writes the very popular Voorlopertjie column on Thursdays, says gunmen hijacked her son while he was sitting in her car in the driveway of their Ottery home on Saturday.

She says she, her 16-year-old son and her husband Nazeem Davids were just about to leave home at about 1.10pm.

The couple got out to talk to a neighbour while the teenager remained in the car, when two armed men on foot approached him.

The men tried to drive off with the frightened boy, but he managed to fight back and jumped out of the vehicle.

The suspects drove off with the 2005 white VW Polo Classic, registration CY 279 526.

The car has a distinctive black fibre roof.

Moeshfieka says there were several valuables in the car, including two cellphones (iPhone 6 and Samsung S5), three brand new gas Totai three-plate stoves, a Behringer sound mixer, 250 drug testing kits, and an expensive Cannon 550 GS camera with lenses.

A shocked Moeshfieka says she can’t believe how quickly it happened.

“This happened in front of my house in broad daylight,” she tells the Daily Voice.

The mom says she is just grateful her son managed to escape.

“My son is so traumatised about the incident. This really shows how criminals don’t value human life.”
