Delmas - Three men accused of killing a five-month-old baby and a day mother appeared in the Delmas Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, Mpumalanga police said.
Lt-Col Leonard Hlathi said the case was postponed to July 17 when the men would bring formal applications for bail. They would remain in custody until then.
Fernandos Maritse, 27, Enock Mbele, 44, and Lazarus Mabhena, 54, are accused of strangling 66-year-old Magrietha de Goede and baby Wiehan Botes in May.
De Goede's body was found under a carpet in an outside room of her home. The baby's body was found under a bed in the main house.
Police are still searching for a fourth man, whom they believe can help them with information about the case.
Democratic Alliance members in the area have protested outside the court during previous appearances. They have called for the establishment of a Border and Rural Safety Division within the SA Police Service.
Days after the killing, members of the Afrikaner Volksraad Verkiesing Kommissie (VVK) (the Afrikaans People's Council Election Commission) protested against violence on women and children.
The DA condemned posters displayed by the VVK members during the march, which apparently read: “Black cowards Ä leave our women and children alone” and “Steal, rape, murder: We are finished with Black South Africa”.
