Cape Town - The man who honeymoon murder accused Shrien Dewani allegedly hired to arrange the murder of his wife said he was not concerned about what would happen to his vehicle, which was used in the attack.

Only after Dewani's wife, Anni Hindocha, had already been killed, did he think about it, taxi driver Zola Tongo said.

Tongo was testifying in the Western Cape High Court on Monday morning, the 13th day of Dewani's murder trial.

It is his fifth day in the witness stand.

Dewani is accused of the murder of his wife during their honeymoon in Cape Town in November 2010. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, conspiracy to commit these crimes and defeating the ends of justice.

Dewani claims the couple were hijacked as Tongo was driving them through Gugulethu in his minibus on Saturday, November 13, 2010. He was released unharmed and Anni driven away. She was found shot dead in the abandoned vehicle in Khayelitsha the next morning.

The State alleges Dewani conspired with Tongo and others to stage the hijacking in return for R15 000.

Tongo earlier told the court that, in a good month, he earned between R30 000 and R40 000 with his silver VW Sharan.

He told the court that during the planning of the murder it was agreed that the men would abandon the vehicle.

But Dewani's advocate, Francois van Zyl SC, put it to him that the risks Tongo had taken were out of proportion to the R5 000 he would allegedly have been paid for his role.

Van Zyl said that the township was dangerous and that Tongo took a risk in agreeing to let it be used in the attack when he earned an income from it.

“That's why I said, my lady, I was a fool and I allowed myself to be misled with this money,” Tongo said.
