Mathew Naidoo received a double life sentence by the Durban High Court on Monday for his part in the killing of his ex-girlfriend's parents.

His former girlfriend Nicolette Lotter was sentenced to 12 years' in jail, and her brother Hardus to 10 years' imprisonment.

Judge Shyan Gyanda ruled that Hardus would be eligible for parole after six years and Nicolette after 10 years. He took into account that the siblings had already served 44 months in prison.

Naidoo and the siblings were convicted last week of murdering Johannes Petrus “Johnny” Lotter, 53, and Maria Magdalena “Riekie” Lotter in their Durban home on July 19, 2008.

During the trial, the brother and sister told the court they had acted at the behest of Naidoo, who had convinced them he was the third son of God. - Sapa
