Durban - The video footage of the Engen garage robbery in Stamford Hill Road in Durban on September 16 shows a man in blue overalls and a leather cap, pulled down to just above the eyes, walking into the convenience store at 7.18pm.

The footage, seen by the Daily News, shows that while he was at the fridge getting a 1 litre cooldrink, a second man walked in. He was of slight build and wore all black, including a sunhat also pulled low on his brow.

The bigger man walks up to the till and places his cooldrink on the counter, but before the cashier can scan it, he tells her not to move.

As he walks around to her side of the till, the manager walks out of the office.

The man tells him to crouch down and not to move.

A petrol attendant who is making his way from the bakery section of the store which is next to the garage till, is also told to go back.

The man grabs the manager’s bag from him and goes behind the bakery till where he holds the bag open for the cashier to fill.

The man in the overalls empties the other register.

The smaller notes go into his black bag, but the R100 and R200 notes he stuffed into his pockets as he glances at his accomplice, who is busy with the other till.

He then pulls out the money shelf in the cash register and empties the coins into his bag before grabbing cigarettes.

The timer on the video records the time they walk out as 7.22pm.

They can be seen walking across the forecourt where two petrol attendants are working, oblivious of the robbery.

The perpetrators are seen crossing Stamford Hill Road and into an alley where a waiting vehicle pulls up and apparently picks them up.

Back in the store, it is business as usual, as two customers walk up to the till, not knowing what has just happened.

The shaken cashier rings the cooldrink abandoned by the robber while signalling that she does not have change in her till.
