Pietermaritzburg - Police in Pietermaritzburg are searching for the driver of a bakkie who allegedly caused a horror crash in Edendale Road on Tuesday night that left one man dead, another fighting for his life and three others injured.

The driver allegedly fled after the crash.

ER24 spokesman, Russell Meiring, said paramedics found three bakkies in the middle of the road. “One of the bakkies came to rest on top of another. It appeared that the bakkie had rolled multiple times before landing on the other bakkie.”

Paramedics then discovered that the driver of one of the vehicles had died.

One of the other drivers and two passengers suffered extensive injuries in the accident, and a pedestrian was hit by one of the bakkies as it spun out of control, said Meiring.

They were treated and then taken to hospital. One passenger is reported to be in a critical condition.

According to traffic authorities, one of the bakkies allegedly lost control and collided with the two other vehicles.
