Cape Town - The Eastern Cape is to get a deputy judge president, the presidency announced on Wednesday.

“President Jacob Zuma has... determined that the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court shall have a deputy judge president, whose headquarters shall be Bhisho,” it said in a statement.

This was in terms of section 6(2) of the 2013 Superior Courts Act.

Bhisho is the seat of the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court.

The post would strengthen judicial governance in the province, and promote effective co-ordination of judicial functions in the division.

“This measure is necessary to support the process of the rationalisation of the high courts in the province,” the presidency said. - Sapa
