Johannesburg - Whether the conversations are stirred up to push book sales or simply to get people talking any talk (or tweet) about Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp, it still gets people hot under the collar.

After weekend newspaper reports on June Steenkamp’s book about her daughter titled Reeva: A Mother’s Story, claiming Steenkamp told her mom she and Oscar had never had sex, a tweet suggesting otherwise led to a twar (Twitter war).

On Sunday, Eyewitness News senior reporter Barry Bateman tweeted a message Oscar had sent to Reeva on January 12 last year with a line that said: “I felt so close to you last night when we made love…”

The tweet, which was retweeted over 130 times by 5pm on Sunday, led to Bateman being accused of being insensitive and using the case to increase sales of a book he co-authored with his colleague Mandy Wiener, titled Behind The Door: the Oscar and Reeva Story.

@nealcol wrote: “Now there are rival books, you make #Reeva’s death seem secondary to profit, #June has the right to her version.”

@Checkma8e responded to Bateman’s tweet and said: “…this is unnecessary. Will you be sending nudes too? We really don’t need to know every personal detail between 2 people.”

Others argued that “making love” can be interpreted in different ways and doesn’t necessarily mean the couple had sex.

@TaffyMataga tweeted: “Does making love only mean having sex??? (There are) so many ways of making love without penetration.”

Some said attempts to dispute what June had said after the news hit the shelves were inappropriate and others pointed out that June “wouldn’t be the first mom on the planet to have been spun such a tale by her daughter”.
