Cape Town - Gay escort Leopold Leisser says he was surprised that honeymoon murder accused Shrien Dewani was still active on gay hook-up site Gaydar.net after he had already announced that he was to marry Swedish beauty Anni Hindocha.

Leisser, who is also known as The German Master, was testifying in Dewani's Western Cape High Court trial in which he is accused of orchestrating Anni's murder.

Leisser, who offers fetish, roleplay and services of a sexual nature, said he and Dewani met in person on three occasions.

The last meeting was in April 2010 - a month before he and Anni were formally engaged.

After that, they remained in contact via Gaydar.net and text messages.

This, according to Leisser, was to arrange to meet again.

At one stage, Dewani told him he would be away for about four of five weeks in October 2010.

This was around the time that the couple were married in India.

When he had not heard from Dewani for a while, he sent him a text message to ask if everything was okay.

Dewani responded that he was busy and would be in contact soon.

The meeting between them never transpired, the court heard.

Leisser said he went to police and made a statement after he saw on the news that Dewani was a suspect in Anni's murder.

Leisser was not allowed to testify about the content of the text messages between them, after the court ruled that they were inadmissible.

Deputy Judge President Jeanette Traverso made the ruling after the defence objected to the relevance of the evidence.

The judge said she would give reasons for her ruling later.
