Former Tshwane Metro Police Department deputy chief Ndumiso Jaca will have his day in court yet again on Thursday in a case dating back four years.

Jaca will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on charges stemming from the cause of his suspension in October 2011.

He faces 11 charges, including fraud, driving a vehicle with false number plates and the illegal use of blue lights.

The matter was postponed on Thursday because the prosecutor was not fully prepared for the trial.

Jaca was charged in March 2011 after he was allegedly seen driving a BMW Z4 with false number plates and blue lights.

It was alleged the same number plates, Balty GP, were also seen on a Harley Davidson motorbike he was driving.

The case has faced many snags in the past, and at one point, Jaca applied for the charges to be quashed.

Jaca and his attorney on numerous occasions asked for the State to obtain further particulars proving its case of fraud and falsifying number plates, which delayed the case even further.

At one point magistrate Graham Travers said his computer’s hard drive “gave in” and asked for time to get it fixed and time for him to return from leave before a judgment would be handed down on whether Jaca’s charges would be dropped.

Even prosecutor Heinrich Scholtz, in unforeseen circumstances, further delayed the case when he was involved in a car accident and suffered neck injuries.
