Johannesburg - A Soweto family has lost hope in the police regarding investigations about their missing daughter.

The family say that on several occasions they provided leads to the police, but they would never hear from them afterwards.

Mbali Nkosi left home on July 20, 2011 to buy meat at the Shoprite in Dube, but failed to return home.

Her mother, Zodwa, was the last person to hear her voice after she had sent a “please call me” message later on the day she disappeared. Mbali said “Mama”, then the phone was cut off, and she hasn’t been heard from or seen since.

Mbali’s father, Edwin Magwai, said he had phoned Gauteng police commissioner Mzwandile Petros on two occasions regarding the issue. He claims Petros asked him to send an SMS with the case number and promised to get someone to help him.

“That was it. I haven’t heard anything from anyone, even police from Meadowlands, where the case is been handled,” said Magwai.

Speaking at their Dube home on Thursday, the family said that in August they had tried their daughter’s cellphone number after her friend had told them that she successfully sent Mbali a “please call me” message .

But Mbali’s phone has been off since her disappearance last year.

Magwai said he had called Mbali’s number, which was answered by a girl who said she was in Dlamini, Soweto.

“She asked me to call after two minutes when I asked for her address. I was certain it was my daughter,” said the distressed father, adding that a man answered the phone the second time when he called.

“That man said he was in Bolobedu, Limpopo,” he said.
