Richmond - The cruelty involved in the killing of a family on a KwaZulu-Natal farm at the weekend suggests such attacks are racially and politically driven, the Freedom Front Plus said on Monday.

“The cruelty of the murder of the family in KwaZulu-Natal is shocking and does not speak of ordinary criminality. The majority of farm murders are accompanied by cruelty, and it creates the impression that it is racially and politically driven,” said spokesman Dr Pieter Groenewald.

A 76-year-old farmer, his 65-year-old wife and their 33-year-old son were attacked and burned to death at their farm near Richmond at midday on Sunday.

Police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said the house was ransacked, and firearms, household items and an undisclosed amount of cash stolen.

Police were investigating three cases of murder, and no arrests had been made.

Groenewald said the FF Plus would ask the minister of police to approve another investigation.
