Five held for armed robbery

Durban - Five people have been arrested for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm in KwaMashu in KwaZulu-Natal, police reported on Thursday.

“It is alleged that victim was at Mncaka Road when he was approached by suspects who were armed with firearms last month. They demanded cellphones and cash, they took two cellphones and undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot,” police said in a statement.

A case of armed robbery was opened at KwaMashu police station for investigation.

Through intensive investigation, the five suspects, aged between 19 and 27, were arrested and one of them was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol.

Police said the suspects would appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of armed robbbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
