Durban - KwaZulu-Natal transport and community safety MEC Willies Mchunu has condemned the killing of five men in Sankontshe, midway between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.

“We urge people not to take the law into their own hands but instead, to work with the police,” he said in a statement.

Mchunu said the case would be investigated by crime intelligence and the Hawks.

Senior officials from the department have been assigned to produce a plan to address criminals operating in the area, Mchunu said.

The men between the ages 20 and 28, were attacked whilst they were at a party on Saturday evening in the KwaZulu-Natal township.

Some of the deceased were wanted for a number of murder cases and armed robberies.

Two were facing murder charges and were out on bail.

Three people were also injured.
