Johannesburg - Five people were arrested after they were found in possession of bundles of new clothes with the price tags still on them during a stop and search in Makhado, Limpopo, said police on Thursday.

“A vehicle was stopped during a stop and search operation, and a lot of new clothes with price tags [still on], valued at R30 000, were found in their possession,” said police spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto.

Otto said when the suspects were questioned, they became apprehensive.

“When asked who they belonged to, one of them tried to offer an officer a bribe, which he refused, they tried to run away but they were all apprehended and arrested,” said Otto.

The clothes were identified by a person who had opened a case of break-in and theft at a clothing store.

Otto said the five men were suspected to be linked to similar cases of break-ins and theft in the area.
