Four dead in Free State ambush

Bloemfontein - Four people were shot dead on Monday night in Bronville in the Free State, provincial police reported on Tuesday.

The incident happened at around 8pm in Extension 15 in Bronville.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Mamello Mokhuoane said: “The three males and a female, aged 25-40, were allegedly driving out of the female’s yard when about 7 unknown suspects opened fire at the vehicle. The four passengers tried to get out of the vehicle were shot dead at the scene. The suspects fled the scene on foot and the motive of the killings is unknown. Bronville police were summoned to the scene and found 9mm pistol cartridges and projectileS at the scene.”

The names of the deceased could not be given as their next of kin had not yet been informed Mokhuoane said.

A case of murder was registered at the Bronville police station for further investigation and police have appealed to anyone with information to call the 08600 10111 or the Thabong Cluster Murder Unit at 057 910 2300.
