Welkom - Free State police on Thursday said a suspect would appear in court following the murder of a fellow gang member apparently over old grudges and a shared lover.

“Thapelo Samuel Sello, also known as ‘Madondo’, will appear at the Welkom Magistrate court on April 16, on a charge of murder.”

Sello, a member of the Free State gang Vatos Lagos (VL), allegedly stabbed fellow gang member 51-year-old Malete “Bricks” Sehloho to death on March 28.

The incident happened after the two started arguing at a tavern in Tholamtwana, Thabong.

“It is alleged the two VL members had an encounter at the tavern about old grudges and issues involving a girl they were both involved with,” said Mokhuoane.

The two men started stabbing each other during the altercation.

Sehloho sustained two stab wounds to the head, one to the neck, and three to the back.

He died on the way to a hospital.

Unaware of Sehloho’s passing, Sello attempted to open a case of assault at a nearby police station.

Instead, officers arrested him.

Madondo appeared in court for the first time on March 31.

He will appear in court again on April 16.
