Cape Town - The drunk driving case against former Proteas cricketer Herschelle Gibbs was on Wednesday postponed to next month by a Cape Town court because he is currently out of the country.

Gibbs was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Wednesday, almost a year after a collision in Camp’s Bay, but his appearance was re-scheduled to next month instead.

Cape Town’s prosecuting authorities rescheduled the matter for December 14.

A spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the purpose of the December proceedings, in the Cape Town District Court, was merely to place the case on the court roll.

The matter would then be postponed, possibly for trial.
