Johannesburg - A seven-year-old girl showed no hesitation in pointing out a Joburg school’s groundsman as her alleged rapist in court on Wednesday.

Harold Ndebele is accused of raping the schoolgirl in a Rembrandt Park Primary School classroom in June last year.

Ndebele, who pleaded not guilty, has been in custody since his arrest last year.

The girl testified in camera on Wednesday because she is a minor.

The defence gave the seven-year-old five photographs for her to point out who the rapist was.

The girl told the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court she had identified her alleged rapist.

The girl’s defence lawyer then asked her to point him out.

“Now I want you to point out Uncle Harold,” the lawyer said.

The girl replied without hesitating: “(He is) Number 2.”

“Is that the person who undressed you and placed his private parts into your private parts?” he asked.

“Yes,” the girl replied quickly.

The matter was postponed to June 13.

The public gallery was packed with members of the Economic Freedom Fighters, who were there to support the victim’s family.

Seated parallel to the party’s members were the family of the accused.

The court had been cleared earlier to enable the matter to be heard in camera.

Previously, The Star reported that the 7-year-old’s grandmother allegedly caught the 39-year-old man in the act in a classroom.

“The door was shut, no one was answering, so I opened. He was behind the stack of chairs with my child,” the woman said.
