Johannesburg - Winnie Madikizela-Mandela believes that former president Nelson Mandela's widow Graca Machel should not inherit a property in Qunu because she owns “a whole world in Mozambique”, Sowetan reported on Tuesday.

“This property is mine and I attained it when the old man was on Robben Island, and there's no dispute about that,” she told Sowetan's sister newspaper the Daily Dispatch.

In October, Madikizela-Mandela's attorney Mvuzo Notyesi told Sapa she filed papers in the Mthatha High Court challenging Mandela's estate, seeking the rights to his Qunu home.

This was after it emerged she had been left out of his will, after he died in December last year.

“I let him live on my property, I wasn't going to (evict him) simply because he was married to a third wife,” Madikizela-Mandela was quoted as saying.

“It is such a pity he is no longer there for me to ask just what on earth would have brought him to elect that he would take my land and give it away to someone who actually has a whole world in Mozambique, because she's got her four houses in Mozambique.”
