Durban - A man who attacked his 83-year-old grandfather with a gear locker, hitting him all over his body and then cutting his throat with a knife, has been sent to prison for 15 years.
Sazi Gumede, 25, of Manguzi area, was convicted and sentenced at the Ingwavuma Regional Court in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, when he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
His grandfather, Majubula Gumede, was at his house at Emanaba area, Mbazwane, on February 19, last year, when he had an argument with his grandson, who attacked him.
Gumede was arrested at the scene on the crime on the same day and charged with murder.
The KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the sentence and commended the good work of the police.
