Cape Town - Council workers were confronted with a gruesome scene after a tractor-drawn grasscutter shredded a dumped baby.

The body of the newborn baby was crushed and broken after the massive vehicle drove over it.

An unsuspecting council worker is traumatised after he realised he drove over the tiny body while cutting the grass.

The body was discovered moments later when another council worker was picking up the cut grass on Tuesday morning.

The full-term baby was dumped on an open field between Wanderers and Austin Street in Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain.

Part of the baby’s twisted body was still wrapped in a grey plastic bag, while the head was squeezed into the ground.

Police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk says cops have opened a case of a concealment of a birth.

Van Wyk says cops received a complaint of a mutilated foetus.

”It is believed the foetus was dumped on the field and while the grass was being cut, a council worker drove over it without noticing,” Van Wyk said.
