Kimbereley - The state hopes to complete its list of 91 witnesses in the Steenkamp murder trial by the end of the year. The prosecution will give an indication towards the end of the week as to when the matter will be postponed in the Northern Cape High Court.

The case, that was set down for three weeks, will not be completed by Thursday.

The availability of the defence as well as the state prosecutors will have to be taken into account, although it is not likely that it will continue next week, after the Easter weekend.

The 12th witnesses took the stand on Monday.

Witnesses who have testified so far include finger print experts, local police officers who were called out to the scene on April 6 2012 and the coffee shop manager who saw the accused running into the police station that night.

Neighbouring farmers, who were under the impression that there was a farm attack on the farm Naauwhoek outside Griquatown, also testified.

The investigating officer, Colonel Dick de Waal, forensic pathologists who conducted the autopsies, the guardians of the accused and family members of the Steenkamp family, have yet to be called to the stand.

Northern Cape High Judge President Frans Kgomo, noted that the accused’s guardian, who is also a witness in the trial, was listening to the testimonies of other witnesses during the trial.

State advocate Hannes Cloete said that, in the interests of the child, he did not object to his guardian attending proceedings.
