Bloemfontein - A fully dressed human skeleton was discovered lying under a tree in Bloemfontein by construction workers in the area, Free State police said on Friday.

“The gruesome discovery was made on Thursday. The remains were found by construction workers who were installing [an] electric fence on the side of the road,” said police spokesperson Captain Chaka Marope.

“The skeleton was still dressed in a pair of beige trousers, a grey T-shirt and black Lacoste shoes.”

The skeleton, which remains unidentified, was discovered along Brandfort Road in Bloemfontein.

“According to preliminary investigation on the scene, the deceased is suspected to be a male who had died two years ago,” said Marope.

“Further investigation will be conducted to determine the identity of the deceased through DNA tests.”

Marope added that police registered a case of inquest for further investigation and that the Parkweg police were requesting assistance from the public for any further information.

Additionally, any family who had reported a missing person in the past two years were requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Khaile Mathibela on 082 779 8868.
