Tonga - A man from Zibokwane in Mpumalanga, accused of raping an 18-year-old youth, appeared briefly in the Tonga Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Magistrate Sibonisiwe Sibuya postponed the case to October 15 for further investigation, said a Sapa correspondent.

The 32-year-old accused, who is a security guard, was still out on R1000 bail.

He has not yet pleaded to the rape charge.

He was arrested on September 4.

It was alleged that he met his victim at a supermarket and asked him to accompany him to his room at a local church, said Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyambi at the time.

Once there, he offered the youth food and he ate, but the guard then pushed him to a bed, undressed him and forced him to have oral sex, Nyambi said.

“The victim defended himself by biting his attacker's penis and managed to escape,” he said.

The young man reported the incident to the police and the guard was found at the church where he stayed.

The victim was referred to the doctor for medical treatment and counselling, said Nyambi.

The man's identity may not be revealed until he has pleaded.
