Durban - A motorist says he was left dazed after a hijacker injected him with an unknown substance then drove off with his grey VW Golf in Clare Estate.

Vaughn Batchu, 26, a self-employed mechanic from Reservoir Hills, said he was driving home in O’Flaherty Road on Monday when two men jumped into the car at a stop street.

One got in the back seat and the other in the front passenger seat.

“The man in the back held a knife to my back. I had my right hand on the steering wheel. He instructed me to drive but I could not take off because cars were passing by,” Batchu said.

“The next moment he poked me in my right arm with what looked like a syringe. I felt dizzy and the next moment, I woke up on the side of the road.” Batchu said he walked home and collapsed again.

He alleged that his shirt was torn and his pocket containing R450 was ripped and the money was missing.

Medical practitioner Dr Terence Govender confirmed he had treated Batchu at his surgery in Mountbatten Drive

Said Batchu: “I was given a tetanus injection, tablets and referred to Parklands Hospital where I had blood and urine tests. I am awaiting the results.”

Police found his car on Tuesday about 4km away in the parking lot of the Siripat Road recreational grounds in Reservoir Hills.

Police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, said on Tuesday that Batchu was allegedly accosted by two men who hijacked his vehicle at the corner of O’Flaherty and Quarry roads in Clare Estate.

“They allegedly threatened him with a knife, injected him with a syringe, pulled him out of his vehicle and sped off. A case of car hijacking was opened at Sydenham police station.”
