Cape Town - The manager of a security company has allegedly been caught on film assaultinga former worker.

Surveillance camera footage shows the guard, who works at a mall in Rondebosch, being violently dragged out of his office.

He was then beaten to a pulp allegedly by Praveen Moodley of AVG Security based in Elsies River.

Mkhumbuzi Jamangile, 34, from Khayelitsha, said that Moodley beat him up for leaving his company and starting a new job.

He claims that he had worked without pay for the months of June and July after AVG’s contract with the mall expired, and was not renewed.

Jamangile told the Daily Voice that “management at the mall had contacted us as they knew we were not working at the moment and we were recruited to work for the new company who had taken over.

“I had continuously spoken to my old manager, Praveen Moodley, and he said we must just wait.

“I have a family to feed, I cannot wait for him to decide to give me work or pay me.”

Jamangile said that on the 6th of August Moodley went to the centre, entered his office and started taking pictures of him.

“I said he does not have the right to photograph me,” said Jamangile.

“I reached for his phone and he pushed me. He is clever. He used to be in charge here, so he tried to do very little where we could be seen (on camera), but you can see the aggression.

“He hit me in the passage and grabbed me.

“He shoved me around, always checking if someone was looking and he beat me so hard, I was in hospital. His punching and kicking had, according to doctors, affected my hernia.

“He deserves to go to jail for this attack,” Jamangile said.

Video footage shows Moodley entering the mall and walking directly to the security office which is a restricted area.

He can then be seen in the office laughing and taking a photograph of Jamangile.

Jamangile is seen being dragged by the collar by Moodley.

When asked for comment on the attack allegations, Moodley replied: “I am guilty of nothing. Anyone who has seen the footage can see I did nothing wrong.”

Captain FC van Wyk confirms that an assault charge was opened against Moodley: “No one has been arrested. The case is still under investigation.”
