Musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye accused of killing children in a car accident believes his urine samples were tampered with, the Protea Magistrate's Court heard on Monday.

“I'm saying its highly, highly, highly possible that our urine was tampered with,” he said during cross-examination.

He could not say who was to blame.

He and co-accused Themba Tshabalala face charges of murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The pair allegedly crashed into a group of school children while racing in Soweto on March 8, 2010. Four of the children died and two others were seriously injured.

Maarohanye told prosecutor Raymond Mathenjwa that he had been taking tablets for depression prior to the accident.

This was why common medicinal substances were found in his urine sample.

Maarohanye could not explain why cocaine and morphine was found in both his and Tshabalala's blood.

Maarohanye has denied that his car hit the children and claimed his car smashed into a tree on the side of the road. – Sapa
