Cape Town - Two children are recovering in hospital after being caught in the crossfire during a shooting on Thursday night in Cape Town.

Police spokesman Andre Traut said the bullets began flying at around 5.50pm in Paulsberg Street in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain.

“A 20-year-old was shot and wounded,” Traut reported.

Police then received reports two children, aged 7 and 8, had been shot outside a barber shop on the corner of Paulsberg and Karbonkelberg streets.

“We have reason to believe the shootings were related,” Traut said.

Police did not think the children had been deliberately targeted, prompting speculation they had been caught in the crossfire.

Traut said the identities of all three victims were being kept confidential.

The two children were “out of danger”, medically, he said.
