Johannesburg - A man believed to have killed one of Radovan Krejcir’s associates in a hail of bullets last year has been tracked down and arrested on separate charges of conspiring to assassinate two men who have investigated the Czech fugitive.

Bassam Issa, a Lebanese-born businessman also known as Black Sam and Cripple Sam, was gunned down in Bedfordview in October last year.

His black Audi Q7 was riddled with 33 bullets after a car pulled up next to him, and one of its occupants opened fire at an intersection near the Bedford Centre mall.

At the time, sources said Issa had worked for Krejcir. The Czech fugitive strongly denied this, although he did admit that he knew the man as they both lived in Bedfordview.

A source close to the Issa investigation said the police had tracked down the gunman, who was on the run, to Durban last week, and he was brought back to Joburg on Thursday.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-General Solomon Makgale said the man was expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning on charges of conspiring to kill forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan and Colonel Nkosana “Killer” Ximba in January.

Krejcir and six others have already been charged with the same crime.

Makgale would not comment on the allegations that the latest man to be arrested was also involved with Issa’s murder, but a second insider said police were confident the man they nabbed last week was the triggerman and that he would be charged for this crime at a later date.

O’Sullivan and Ximba have both been involved with investigations against Krejcir.
