Durban - Two men linked to the beheading of a South Coast cricketer appeared in the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court on Monday - for allegedly beheading a woman in an apparent muti killing.

Umzinto security guard Eric Ngidi and Thandowakhe Thando Duma appeared before a packed courtroom.

A third accused, Elias Sihle Mchunu, who is believed to be a traditional healer, did not come to court. He is being held at Westville prison.

Police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, said Ngidi and Duma had abandoned their application to be released on bail.

They were due back in court on Thursday.

During police investigations, Ngidi implicated Duma in the murder of the woman.

The three accused were arrested in connection with the beheading of intellectually impaired South African and KwaZulu-Natal cricket player Nawaaz Khan, near Gandhinagar Township in Umzinto, on October 31.

During police investigations Duma was arrested and implicated Mchunu in the crime.

Police later arrested Ngidi, who showed police the body of a woman in the same bushes where Khan was found.

A plastic bag contained what was believed to be the remains of the woman victim’s head.

Thus far, Ngidi has not been implicated in Khan’s death.

Duma and Mchunu will appear in the same court on December 14 for the murder of Khan.

Mchunu was also charged for kidnapping in a separate case.
