Durban - A 33-year-old man who is alleged to be a Bergville area councillor, was arrested for being in possession of dagga valued at R82 000, police said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said the arrest was made on Wednesday following a stop and search in Ladysmith.

“After stopping the suspicious driver, police recovered 41 kilograms of dagga stored in five plastic bags.”

Naicker said the man was arrested for possession of dagga and during a preliminary investigation, it was discovered that he was alleged to be a Bergville area councillor.
