Durban - The deputy boss of the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal was arrested and appeared briefly in court on Wednesday, the National Prosecuting Authority said.

NPA spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson confirmed that Brigadier Simon Madonsela appeared in the Durban Commercial Crime Court on two charges of corruption.

She said it was alleged that Madonsela had accepted two payments, of R25 000 and R3 000, from two complainants.

He was released on R5000 bail and is due back in court on April 9.

Madonsela is the deputy to KZN Hawks boss Johan Booysen.
