Durban - A search is under way, conducted by police and the family of Kassif Yusuf, 38, last seen being bundled into a white Hyundai H100 van on Wednesday in Asherville, Durban.

Yusuf was walking to the Mallinson Road mosque with a friend when a van stopped next to them along Briza Place.

Police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, said three men forced Yusuf into the van at gunpoint and drove off.

The friend was unharmed and ran home to phone the police.

A source said Yusuf’s hat and shirt fell off during the scuffle to get him into the van. The kidnappers stopped to retrieve them.

Yusuf’s family has refused to comment.

It is not clear if Yusuf was fasting, a practice that is observed by Muslims during Ramadaan.

Sydenham police have opened a case of kidnapping.

* In Ballito, Roan de Beer, the general manager of the Milk Cafe, who disappeared on Monday while running an errand, is still missing.
